We have been doing a devotional study of Isaiah 52:13-53:12.  In this study we’ve looked for what this portion of scripture says about God the Father and God the Son.  The next thing we should look for is what is said about God the Holy Spirit.

In these verses there is nothing specifically said about the Holy Spirit.  So we could move on to the next question, what is said about man?  But before we do let me just say that though the Holy Spirit is not mentioned, we know from other scriptures that He is actively involved in what we’ve studied thus far.

The Holy Spirit is the one who inspired these words.  Listen to 1 Peter 1:21, “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”  That included Isaiah, whose prophecy we have been studying.  The Holy Spirit was actively involved in guiding Isaiah to say what he said.

It is clear in the New Testament that the Holy Spirit was involved in every aspect of Jesus Christ’s life.  He was involved in His conception (Luke 2), His baptism (Matthew 3), His anointing and ministry (Luke 4), His death on the cross (Hebrews 9:14), His resurrection (1 Peter 3:18).

Though not mentioned by Isaiah in the portion we have been studying, the Holy Spirit was indispensable in all that we have studied.  So as we take time to worship God the Father and thank Him for sending His Son to die for our sins so that we could be saved, and as we take time to worship and thank God the Son for His great sacrifice, let’s not forget to worship and thank God the Holy Spirit for His part in the grand provision of our salvation.
