If you’ve listened to this program since the beginning of the year you know I’ve encouraged listeners to commit to reading through the Bible over the next two years.  To do that you need to read about two chapters a day.  We are now about ready to read the book of Leviticus, the third book of the Bible.

As you read it you’ll find man was created to be at peace with God and have fellowship with Him.  God has a plan for our lives, but man chose to go his own way (Isaiah 53:6).  This is sin and it’s what separates us from God.  Leviticus tells us how seriously God considers our sin to be.  Nothing short of a blood sacrifice will atone for sin.

The sacrifices are described in detail, teaching us to be careful how we approach a holy God.  Carelessness in worship is dangerous.  The sacrifices and the tabernacle ritual symbolically look forward to Jesus Christ and what He would do for us through His sacrifice on the cross.  We need forgiveness for our sin.  His blood sacrifice alone can do this for us.  By faith we must confess our sin and trust in His sacrifice if we want peace and fellowship with God.

Try memorizing Leviticus 20:26 and keep it in mind as you read the book: “Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy; and I have set you apart from the peoples to by Mine.”  Don’t let the repetition of the details of the sacrifices distract you from this thrust throughout the book.  God is holy and has provided a way for us to be forgiven and cleansed so we can enter into fellowship with Him and maintain it.
