We have been doing a “four S” study of Matthew 24-25 and some of the surrounding chapters. We spread out information found in these chapters, then sorted it into groups and structured it into an outline.

Now we’ll take the fourth step in this study, summarize what we’ve discovered into some applications we can make to our own lives. We’ve done this to some degree during the process of the study. Now let’s make sure we don’t forget what we have learned.

I would highlight what we’ve learned with five words: readiness, watchfulness, diligence and selfless service.

Readiness involves remembering the signs Jesus identified that would take place before the end. If we know what’s coming down the pike we can prepare ourselves for coping effectively when it comes. That would involve reading, studying and meditating on God’s Word. It would also include praying for yourself, those around you, and the world. In addition, build strong, loving relationships with fellow believers.

Watchfulness involves looking for indicators of those signs. We need to observe what is going on around us and in the world at large. Some of the signs are precursors of the final events. Discerning the difference will help keep us from being deceived or alarmed. That will help us guard against being sidetracked or fearful. It will also help us to stay focused on what God has gifted and assigned us to do.

Staying focused will help us be diligent. We’ll not waste time or energy on peripheral things. This is essential in being a faithful and fruitful servant.
