There are some things you really need to know if you want to please God and live for His glory. That statement is based on 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
These are the things you need to know. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If you are a Christian the Holy Spirit is in you. He was given to you by God as that token or seal that you have trusted in Christ. He began working in you and desires to work through you. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You need to know that as a Christian.
Secondly, you are not your own. You’re not free to just go out and do what you want to do. You were bought with a price. You belong to someone else. You belong to God. The price that was paid was very deer.
Three, you have a responsibility to honor God in your body. This is more than mere theory. You are to honor God, not just with words, but in your body. Your life, your body is to be holy, it is to be dedicated, it is to be responsive, it is to be a tangible model, visible to the world around you, of what God can do in a life that belongs to Him.
This was not happening in the Corinthian church. Paul raises the question, “Don’t you know these things?” If he were present today, talking to us, would he have to raise the same question? Or would he see God being honored in and through your life.
