Isaiah gives us a wonderful promise concerning what took place on the first Christmas. It’s found in Isaiah 9:6. Listen: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders; And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Yes, that first Christmas a child was born. But note, it also says a son was given. Who gave this son? John 3:16 gives us the answer: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

The prophet describes what Paul says is an indescribable gift in 2 Corinthians 9:15. He says that this Son-gift would be called Wonderful Counselor. Some commentators say that these could be considered as two names. He is called Wonderful, and he is called Counselor. Others say they should be considered together. Either way, isn’t He awesome?

Not only can He give you great counsel, as the Mighty God, He can provide for you and enable you to experience all He has said is best for you. No obstacle is too great for Him to overcome. No enemy is too strong for Him to defeat. As the Everlasting Father, He will genuinely care for your every need, not just some time, but all the time.

As you trust Him to work His perfect will in you and through you, you will begin to understand what true inner peace is. He came into a troubled world, overcame it, and now offers you the peace He won: peace with Him, peace within, and peace with others.
