In our last visit we began to study what Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 1 about having a worldview that gives confidence in the face of trials and hope for the future. We found God has established His church. If you have believed in the good news about Jesus Christ you are in His church.

There is no safer place on earth than in His church. You may be persecuted for your faith and feel abandoned, but rest assured, God who called you into His church will sustain and keep you. You will never be abandoned. What He has started in your life He will bring to completion. How do I know this? Because God is just. Justice in our world is at best flawed, at worst tyrannical. But God will write the last chapter and His justice will prevail.

His judgment on anything is right. You need not worry about some unknown information to you being unknown to God. Verse 6 says, “He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled.” If you or someone you love is treated unjustly, God will put things right in the end. This brings comfort not only to the one under duress. It also brings comfort to the one observing injustice.

This will all happen at the right time according to God’s timetable. He will not be late. He also will not be early. This will happen “on the day Jesus Christ comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who believed” (verse 10).

A worldview that sees these truths clearly will give you confidence in the face of trials and hope for the future.
