As I mentioned in our last visit, my parents, especially my Mother, had a profound impact on my life. It was the environment they created in our home that set the stage for my making a commitment to Jesus Christ.
The one who specifically was involved in my making a decision for Christ was an evangelist. He was a warm, pastoral type evangelist. I can only remember he had a big nose and a warm smile. It wasn’t so much what he said. The message was consistent with what I had heard since childhood. I was only 9, but I’d heard the truth many times. His presentation at the service, where the expectation of a response was present, set the stage. Prayer had been offered in a general way and I’m sure in a specific way for me.
The time was right and the setting was right. I was prepared and ready. I had made responses before as a child, but this time I sensed it was for real. Evangelist Palfanere was God’s instrument. I’m grateful to God that he was faithful to his calling. I benefited and over the years God has been pleased to give me the privilege and opportunity to help many others come to faith in Christ and grow in Him.
It took many others to encourage and help me grow in my Christian faith. That didn’t start right away, but again, in God’s time I was confronted with truth that resonated with the reservoir of truth deposited into my experience and memory bank over the years, both in pre-evangelism and direct evangelism. I’m grateful to God for each one who played a part in my coming to know Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.
