We have discovered in our biographical study of Stephen, the first recorded Christian martyr, he was a man of far greater qualities and giftedness than at first recognized. Once chosen to serve tables, a rather mundane task, his full array of potential emerged.

As we collect information about him from Acts 6 and 7 we discover that he was also a man full of faith, God’s grace and power. When falsely accused he answered his accusers with the wisdom that comes from knowing God’s Word thoroughly. He knew the Word of God well and was not reticent to share it. His presentation of Israel’s history is one of the best summaries found in the Bible.

In the face of opposition he remained radiant, his face shinning like that of an angel. When threatened with terror he focused his mind on Jesus Christ. And while being stoned to death he evidenced Christ-likeness. Like Christ he prayed for his killers, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”

In correlating the information we have collected about his life I came up with the following outline. The title might be: The Power of a Life Well Lived.

1. He met entry level requirements.
2. He matured through responsible service.
3. He modeled Christ-likeness while under attack.

If you amplified this outline further, you could add the following under the first point: He met entry level requirements. a. he was full of the Holy Spirit, b. he was full of wisdom, c. he was respected by others, d. he was willing to serve.

Till our next visit try amplifying the other two points yourself.
