In our last visit I encouraged you to prayerfully reflect on Isaiah 55:2-3 in preparation for our study.  Did you do what I suggested?  Were you listening?  Did you give ear and go to the Lord?  Did you hear from God?  These are the things Isaiah said we should do: listen…give ear and hear.

When God called Isaiah He told him to proclaim a message to which he would get the following response: “Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.  Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes.  Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed” (Isaiah 6:9-10).

Throughout the book this theme is repeated over and over again.  Here the people are reminded again: “listen, listen, give ear and hear.”  What is it they will hear from God if they follow these instructions?  God will give them life and love.  We miss so much of what God wants to give us because we don’t listen, give ear and hear what He promises.

If you follow His instructions you will “eat what is good and your soul will delight in the richest of fare” (verse 2).  God also says “that your soul may live.  I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David” (verse 3).

David came to God over and over again.  He listened, gave ear and heard from God.  That is why God called him “a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do” (Acts 13:22).  Follow his example and you will live and experience God’s faithful love
