The next question to consider in our devotional study of Isaiah 52:13-53:12 is this: Are there any promises to claim in this portion of scripture? I find at least two.
The first is that our sin problem has been solved. The suffering of Jesus Christ fully satisfied the righteous demands of the law and of God. Now we can be forgiven for our sins and not have to face the just judgment of God. Isaiah declared in 53:5 “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Paul summarized in 2 Corinthians 5:21 what Isaiah said in these verses: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Wow! What an unbelievable provision and promise.
Added to this promise is another, found in Isaiah 53:12, “He made intercession for the transgressors.” This, no doubt, had reference to the prayer Jesus repeatedly uttered while being crucified, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”(Luke 23:34). I’m also reminded of Hebrews 7:25, “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”
I love that last phrase, “he always lives to intercede for them.” Jesus is at the Father’s right hand interceding for all those whom He has saved so they would experience completely the salvation He provided. If you’re saved be encouraged – He’s interceding for you! What an amazing Easter celebration promise.
