We’ve looked at different individuals or groups who in Mark 15 used the phrase, “the king of the Jews.”

After Pilate found no fault in Him, he turned Him over to his soldiers.  They had heard the rumor that He claimed to be the king of the Jews, so they made sport of Him.

They took Him to the Praetorium where the soldiers hung out.  As they swarmed around Him, some put a purple robe on Him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on Him.  “Hail, king of the Jews!” they boisterously jested.  “Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him.  Falling on their knees, they paid homage to Him.”

After brutally beating Him they took the robe back off, put His own clothes on Him, led Him out of the city and callously nailed Jesus to the cross.

How similar to multitudes who use the name of Jesus Christ in thoughtless swearing.  Also like many caught up in the socially or politically correct mindset that doesn’t look into the facts, simply opposing anything associated with Jesus Christ and His people.

Fortunately, even among this group of hardened soldiers there was at least one who after observing all that took place before and at the cross, said, as recorded in verse 39, “Surely this man was the Son of God.”  The two guilty men who were crucified with Jesus were a part of this mocking group, but before they expired, one of them turned to Jesus by faith.

If Christianity has never interested you, and possibly you have even mocked Christians, let me encourage you to look into the facts and be persuaded to trust in Jesus Christ who loves you and died for your sins.
