In our last visit we considered what an impact thought is. Let me review: As you read the Bible, pray that God would enable you to interact with what He is saying. Be thinking of how what He is saying relates to and can be applied to your life.
When thoughts germinate, cultivate them. Stop long enough to write them down. Crystallize your thought into a sentence you will readily remember and be able to apply to your life.

For example, prayerfully read Mark 4:26-29, the parable of the growing seed. The point being made in the parable is that once you plant seed in the ground, no matter what you do after that, night and day the seed sprouts and grows. We don't know how this happens. There is an element of mystery involved in the dynamic of growth in the natural world. There is a time for planting and harvesting. You can weed and water, but this only encourages what takes place on its own.

Since Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like this, it would indicate that we can plant the seed of God's Word into the hearts and minds of individuals. We can contribute to creating an environment conducive for growth and we can be there ready for the harvest, but there is a mysterious element we can't quite comprehend as the seed of God's Word germinates, sprouts and grows into a ripe crop.

The impact thought that developed in my mind as I read and reflected on this parable was: "Do what you can, but don't try doing what only God can do, as you spiritually sow and anticipate a harvest." Don't get discouraged or try to force growth if it is not readily apparent. Be patient and let God produce the growth in His way and time. Live and work in hope of a harvest.
