In our last visit we reviewed how Paul had his life dramatically and permanently transformed by the power of experiencing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  He was exposed to this message when he persecuted the Church.  Once experiencing it himself he began sharing it with others.  He made it clear he had not learned it or had it passed on to him by others.  It was a message received and explained by none other than Jesus Christ.

After he began proclaiming what he had received he went up to Jerusalem to meet with the pillars of the Church there.  He did this to make sure what he was teaching was affirmed so he would not run or preach in vain.

They added nothing to what he had received directly from Jesus Christ.  They did, however, extend a right hand of fellowship as an acknowledgment of the grace given to him.  Paul said in Galatians 2:9-10, “TIhey agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.  All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.”   Paul then refers to a later occasion, when he had to call Peter on the carpet for compromising the true freedom they had experienced and proclaimed.  This was a message worth living for and if need be, dying for.

I believe that’s what Paul meant when in his own handwriting he declared in Galatians 6:14, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”  The price he paid was stated in Galatians 6:17: “I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.”  Ultimately, he died for the cause of Christ.
