In our last visit we began a focus and amplify study of Psalm 139.  The focus is in the form of a prayer, reflected in verse 1, “O Lord, you have searched me,” and expressed at the close of the Psalm: “Search me, O God.”  In the verses between you find God presented as the Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent One.

God knows everything about me: my actions, my thoughts, and even what I will say before I say it.  There is nothing I can hide from Him.  In worship, the Psalmist declares, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”

When the Psalmist prays for God to search him and test him, he is not asking God to see if there is anything He doesn’t already know.  He is praying that God would reveal to him anything He knows needs to be changed or cleansed.

Sometimes when we realize God knows everything about us we want to run away and hide.  But when the Psalmist contemplates doing this, he realizes since God is Omnipresent there is no place he can run to get away from God.  Even if he fled to a place of darkest night, he knows, “even the darkness will not be dark to God; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to God.”  Paul, quoting a philosopher of his day said in Acts 17:28, “For in him we live and move and have our being.”

Since you can’t hide anything from God, nor can you yourself hide from him, why not accept that fact and surrender to His control.  You will never be disappointed.  In fact, there is a sense of security that will stabilize and sustain you.
