We have been studying the book written by the half-brother of Jesus.  James didn’t come to believe in Jesus Christ as his Messiah until after Christ died on the cross and arose in victory over the grave.

I mentioned a quote in our last visit: “I can’t do everything, but I can do something.  What I can do, I ought to do.  What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.”  Praise God, Jesus did what He could do when He died on the cross for our sins.  This was God’s solution to the problem of sin all of us face.

Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “God made him (Jesus Christ) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”  Or put another way by Paul, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).  That is why the writer of the book of Hebrews declared, quoting Jesus prophetically, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”  Then he continues by explaining, “By that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…when this priest (Jesus Christ) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.  Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy” (Hebrews 10:9-14).  Halleluiah!  What a Savior!
