It’s clear from the study we’ve done on prayer in the book of James that we should make prayer a high priority in our lives if we are to live Christianly in our daily lives.

If we don’t pray for wisdom, our trials and temptations will become overwhelming.  If we don’t pray in faith and with faithfulness, we will find ourselves always wondering if God really cares about us, because our desires will be left unfulfilled.  If we pray faithfully God will give us a desire for things that are in keeping with His will.  Such desires will both satisfy us and glorify and please the Father.

To summarize our study on prayer, our first response to trouble of any kind should be prayer.  I must admit, prayer often is a last resort in my life.  When I find myself stuck with an unresolved hurt or need, I should call on others to pray, especially mature believers.  You will find they aren’t perfect, but if they follow God’s guidelines for prayer, not only will they grow through the exercise, your need will often be met.  I can’t say I have always seen the desired answer to prayer.  But I’ve seen God do wonderful things in answer to prayer often enough that I would always encourage you to follow God’s directions and leave the results in His hand.

This is why James uses Elijah’s example.  He didn’t just pray once.  He prayed fervently until the answer came.

Recently God answered a prayer I offered many years ago in Bible School.  I prayed for a country that was closed to the Gospel, now this very program is being aired daily on a network of stations in that country.  God truly is faithful.  Amen.
