We’ve been studying how to be victorious in trials and over temptations according to the teaching of James 1. God’s always in the business of affirming and growing us so we might “be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
God uses trials and temptations to mold our character into what He desires us to be. Right responses to what we understanding is taking place produce the desired objective. Wrong responses lead to frustration and failure.
In 1 Corinthians 10 Paul says we can and should learn from Old Testament examples. That’s why God inspired men to record those experiences, so we can learn from them. Never conclude on the basis of past victories in your life that you are impervious to temptation. That attitude will set you up for a fall. When tempted, remember, 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
James 1:12 promises, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” He further suggests that when faced with trials or attracted by temptation turn your focus from them to the Lord, and many good and perfect gifts will come to you from His loving hands.
He chose you to have a strong, loving relationship with Him. Let that be your attraction and the source of your victory in trials and over temptations.
