Test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.  (Romans 12:2)

We have been studying Romans 12:1-2 in recent visits.  Paul calls us to make a once-for-all commitment of our lives to God and follow up that commitment with continuous vigilance.  This vigilance has a twofold thrust.  Don’t allow yourself to be pressured into the mind-set of this world.  Then act in such a way that what you are in your heart, a child of God, will be apparent outwardly by the way you act and react.  When we continuously do and say what we know a Christian should do and say, we will “test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

When Paul says, “test and approve,” he is not saying we should try living rightly to see whether or not God’s will is ok.  By living in the light of God’s will as revealed in God’s word we will be putting God’s will to the test in order to show it’s worthiness to be approved.  When engineers design and build a bridge, and when completed test it by having cars and trucks drive over it, that test is not to see whether the bridge will hold the weight of the vehicles.  The test is to show that the bridge can bear the weight, and thus be approved for regular use.

When we live in such a way that God’s will is shown to be worthy of approval we will see that God’s will is good.  It is good for us.  It will be good for others who are touched by our lives.  It will be recognized as good, and thus bring glory to God.  It will also be shown to be pleasing.

Psalm 16:11 in the King James version says, “In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Are you trusting God to demonstrate His will to be perfect through your life?
