Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  (Romans 11:33)

This is how Paul expresses his worship of God.  Being infinite the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God are beyond our comprehension, but we can affirm them.

Paul continues his worship by acknowledging, “How unsearchable are His judgments and His paths beyond tracing out.”  When God makes a judgment about anything He takes into consideration all He knows about it.  Not that He has to consider everything, because He determines what is best intuitively.  When we try tracing out His paths we find they are beyond us.  God doesn’t need a blueprint for anything He does.  He doesn’t need a map for anywhere He goes.

When we consider His judgments we might find them confusing from our perspective in the grandstands.  Even when His judgments are about us and affect us, we have a hard time comprehending.  We think we know what should be included in determining the judgment.  If they’re not included we might think it’s all unfair.  But when we stand silent before God we know that His judgments truly are unsearchable.

When we give great thought and prayer to planning for something in our lives we need to keep in mind the wisdom of Solomon in Proverbs 16:9, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps,” and 20:24, “A man’s steps are directed by the Lord.  How then can anyone understand his own way?”  I might also add, “How can anyone understand the Lord’s way!”

We are wise if we trust in God and obey Him according to what we do know, no matter how little that might be.
