While we’ve studied Malachi 2 we’ve considered what to appreciate, avoid and appropriate.  Now let’s look at what to anticipate.

Most of the chapter is a call to repent and return to their covenantal responsibilities to God and each other.  They were already seeing unintended consequences to their pride and selfishness, but worse consequences were approaching.  Verse 2 warns: “‘If you do not listen and if you do not set your heart to honor my name,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings.  Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me.’”

Note the phrase: “I will curse your blessings.”  What a tragedy.  Could it be why many who’ve been blessed are so empty, frustrated and depressed, because they don’t honor God and praise Him for His gracious provision.  As we saw in chapter 1, God loves us.  That’s why He blesses us.  Once blessed, He wants to use us to be a channel of blessing to others.

Start by thanking God for the blessings you’ve received.  Then ask for wisdom to share your blessings with others.  Ask God to turn many from sin and give them a hunger to seek further instruction.  That’s what He wants us to anticipate.

But always remember, as God uses you, honor His name, by making clear whatever you share all comes from God.
