In today’s study we’ll look at the last of the Minor Prophets. Malachi gives a future focus for life. It’s been said, “Only one life ‘twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.” Everything we do should be done with the awareness that we’ll have to give account for it in the future. This is true of our worship of God and our work for God. It must be done well.
Malachi declares that God hates divorce because it’s an affront to God’s perfect plan for marriage and because of the havoc it brings on families and society. He also points out that the quality of our giving is as important as the quality of our living. The two are inseparable. The Lord said we should bring all that is His into His storehouse. When we do, He richly repays.
You can never prepare too well for the future. A day is coming when faithful service will be rewarded. There’s also a day when disobedience, lack of faithfulness, poor quality in living, giving and serving, will be brought before the Lord for His evaluation; just judgment will follow.
It’s important for us, first and foremost, to turn our lives over to God. As we trust in Him and allow Him to work in and through us, His will and purpose will be accomplished and we’ll be ready for His return.
