In our last visit I explained how to do an inductive study of a portion of the Bible.  We looked at two parables in the 13th chapter of Matthew where Jesus interpreted what He meant by the parable He had given.  I suggested you try developing some applications you could make to your life based on what Jesus taught.  Let me share what I came up with.

Based on the parable of the sower you could say that when witnessing for Christ you should take care where you sow the seed of God’s Word.  Try to sow it into the lives of those who have been prepared by God’s Spirit.

On the other hand, no matter how careful you are, since you can’t see what is in the heart of the hearer, have realistic expectations regarding the results.  Some who respond will not follow through.  Don’t be too hard on yourself when that happens.  Commit the results to God.

Now, if you apply the interpretation of Jesus as a way of examining your own heart response to the Word of God being sown in your life, you might ask the following questions.  Is my life so busy that I’m like the beaten down path, which doesn’t leave room for the seed to germinate?  Or is my response shallow, not taking into consideration the cost of commitment?  Or, after making my response, am I sidetracked by worrying about material things?

Hopefully, my life is like the cultivated soil which nourishes the seed and results in fruitfulness.  Reflect on that and ask God to make you fruitful for His glory.
