Here’s a good verse to pray to God for your church. Paul the apostle prayed it and then wrote it out in his letter to the church in Rome. It’s found in Romans 15:5-6, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

God wants to bless the church as it follows His Son, Jesus Christ. He also wants to give the church endurance and encouragement and is ready to give it a spirit of unity as a fellowship of believers.

There are so many differences in people as they come together as a church. They come from many different backgrounds. Some are mature Christians. Others are babes in Christ. Some have served the church for a long time and have seen God work through them. They have ideas of how to do things. Then a younger Christian volunteers and starts doing them differently. That can create discord and frustration.

In a Church there is need for encouragement and the primary source for that is God. He also provides the endurance for pressing on in tough times.

The unity Paul prayed for makes doing the work of God go so much easier. It also communicates a powerful message to the on looking world. That’s what Jesus said in His prayer in John 17:20: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”
