An impact statement you’d be wise to remember is found in Hosea 13:6, “When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.”  Satisfied, proud and forgetful.  What a tragic trilogy.

In this passage God is expressing His anger against Israel.  They had chosen a treacherous path of idolatry, even offering human sacrifices.  God demands uncompromised devotion.  He will not share His glory with another.  God loves sinners, as explained and demonstrated throughout Hosea.  In Hosea 13:5 He says, “I cared for you in the desert, in the land of burning heat.”  In their time of need, if left to themselves, they would starve.  God fed them and they were satisfied.  He miraculously provided manna daily for four decades.  When they grumbled He even provided quail to eat and water to drink.

But when they were satisfied they became proud.  Proud that they were a special people to God.  This pride soon blinded them.  God’s provision was more important to them than His person and presence.

They forgot Him.  Never forget this tragic trilogy: satisfied, proud and forgetful.  We’re living in the lap of luxury.  God has prospered us beyond imagination.  Beware of pride, for that often leads to forgetfulness.

Remember the impact statement: “When I fed them, they were satisfied, when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.”
