A final title is in John 15:1, “I am the true vine!”  When I first thought about this title I saw Jesus as the stock and believers as the branches.  But when He says, “I am the true vine,” He’s saying, “I’m everything.  Believers are a part of Me, just as branches are a part of the vine.  The vine is the totality of roots, stock, branches and fruit.”  It’s more than being attached to Him, it’s remaining in Him and counting on Him to remain in you. 

As Jesus develops this picture it’s clear, apart from Him we can become or produce nothing worthwhile.  By remaining in Him, depending on Him and allowing Him to work in and through us, we will produce much fruit.  This is how Jesus works out His life and purpose in and through us who believe. 

Now, after collecting these titles and names of Jesus as found in the Gospel of John we need to correlate what we’ve found into an outline.  I identified four points: 1. Acknowledge Who He is, 2. Accept what He’s done, 3. Trust Him to be what He wants to be in your life, and 4. Expect Him to make you the person He wants you to be.  The title, Experiencing Abundant Life Through Christ. 

The final step in a topical study is to crystallize what you;ve learned into some applications.  In our next visit I’ll share some applications I came up with.
