In our last visit I asked this question: “Do you ever feel as though you’ve been forced into a time of retreat or rest?”  An example of this would be when you’re sick or laid up for a period of time.  Maybe you don’t like it.  Maybe you’re frustrated and fight back.  Sometimes it’s good to let the Lord minister to you in a special way, in an unhurried way.

The Psalmist says in Psalm 23:2, “The Lord makes me to lie down in green pastures.”  There are times we don’t take time for rest and recreation.  We need those green pastures that are nourishing and refreshing.  If we don’t make time for this ourselves, He might make us lie down in green pastures.

He also, at times, leads us beside quiet or still waters so that we experience the impact of a tranquil setting.  He does this to restore our souls.  He has a plan for our lives and will work to accomplish that plan in our lives.  Don’t resist Him when He makes you lie down or leads you beside still waters.

Verse 3 says He has a purpose in mind when He works through our circumstances in our lives.  It says, “He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”  We’re to live for His honor and glory, to fulfill His purpose and plan.  We’re to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.  He is to be glorified in and through our lives, and He will be when we experience His will and purpose.

This is what it means to have a meaningful relationship with Him.  Cooperate with Him as He guide you for His name’s sake today.
