During this program day by day I try to help you, the listener, learn how to study the Bible so you get its message and apply it to your life.  The Psalmist wrote about hiding God’s Word in his heart in Psalm 119:11.  He also talked about meditating on God’s Word day and night in Psalm 1:2.

How do you hide God’s Word in your heart so you can meditate on it day and night?  Any type of study and meditation helps, but the most basic way is to memorize God’s Word.  As you read and study God’s word certain verses will capture a truth.  It would be good to memorize them.  When you remember these verses they’ll trigger you to remember the context and the lesson you learned.

For most of us memorizing is hard work, and we might give up easily.  But remember Christ’s promise in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit would teach us all things and remind us of everything Christ taught.  He helps us memorize and remember.

Also learn the reference where the verse is found.  Once memorized, review the verse and the reference.  Then review it some more.  Review is the secret of memorizing.  There is no short cut.

In thinking of the material in the gospel of Mark a key verse to memorize is chapter 1, verse 17.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”  Remember when I introduced the book of Mark I said Christ is presented as the commander before us.  As Commander He goes before us and calls us to follow Him.  As we do, He equips us to carry out our mission.
