In our last visit, we studied 2 Chronicles 20.  Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, had a problem.  A godless nation was conquering all the cities around Jerusalem and promised to come and take Jerusalem.  When this problem became known, Jehoshaphat immediately went into the Temple and sought God in prayer.

In answer to his prayer, God gave a promise: “You will not have to fight this battle.  Take up your position, stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.  Do not be afraid.  Do not be discouraged.  Go out to face them tomorrow and the Lord will be with you.  The Lord will fight for you.  The battle is His.”

When he got this promise, notice what he did?  He got a choir together, and put the choir in front of the army.  As they went out into battle, there was the choir, praising God.  They affirmed the promise God made by praising Him, confident He would fight for them.

God did enter the battle and worked in and through those circumstances in power.  The enemy was routed as they fought against each other.  Judah didn’t even have to raise a sword.  The army was virtually wiped out in front of their eyes.  Reading on, you find that they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground.  No one escaped.  There were so many supplies left behind that they were hardly able to gather them all together and take them into Jerusalem.

Next time you’re faced with seemingly insurmountable problems tackle them Jehoshaphat’s way, and you’ll find that prayer works.
