In 2 Chronicles 20 you’ll find some exciting things to help us live as God wants us to live when facing difficulties.  2 Chronicles 20 describes a problem Jehoshaphat the king was facing.  A vast army was coming against him from Edom.  Then, in detail, it presents the threat this army was bringing against Judah.

Jehoshaphat’s response to this problem was to go to God in prayer.  I suggest you read this prayer carefully.  Verse 6 says: “O Lord, God of our Fathers, are You not the God Who is in heaven?  You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations.”  Then he extols God’s greatness.  After this time of worship he spells out the problem before God in prayer and concludes with these words, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

This is not a cop out.  Here is a man who understands his circumstances.  His problem was overwhelming.  He didn’t know what to do, so he went to God in prayer.  God’s response to his humble prayer is in the form of a promise. “Listen, King Jehoshaphat, and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem.  This is what the Lord says to you, ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.  You will not have to fight this battle.’”

It’s important to note, when we have problems and bring them to God in prayer, He responds with a promise of caring for us and meeting us in our need.  Our circumstances might be different than what Jehoshaphat faced, but our God is the same.
