Did you know that “One plus God is a majority?”  You might call that an impact thought.  In our last study we looked at an impact statement - that is, a statement that grabs your attention and drives home a point so poignantly that you remember it and understand its application readily.  An impact thought develops in your mind, growing out of what you’re reading.  1 Samuel 14 is the basis for the impact thought, “One plus God is a majority!”

Jonathan, Saul’s son, faced impossible odds when he went out one day with his armor-bearer to where the Philistines were encamped.  In verse 6 he says to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows.  Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf.  Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.”

The last half of this verse could be considered an impact statement.  When you consider the whole context you see how Jonathan single-handedly challenged 20 Philistines in the space of about 1/2 acre.  His armor-bearer finished off those Jonathan slew.  God used Jonathan’s bravery as a catalyst to send fear and panic into the whole Philistine army and they started fleeing.  Saul and his army then pursued them and wiped them out.  It all started with one man who trusted in his God against impossible odds.

“One plus God is a majority!”  What seemed impossible actually happened.  It can happen in your life as well.  Trust God and obey His orders and see for yourself what God can do in and through you.
