Continuing to read about the times when Judges ruled in Israel we come to the book of Ruth.  If you’ve been reading a couple of chapters each day this year this is about where you should be.  I am encouraging listeners to this program to read through the Bible in the next two years.  I know of no better way to prepare for whatever you face in life.

When reading the book of Ruth keep the following written by A. A. Reese in mind.  “Little is much when God is in it.”

Through marriage Ruth discovered the God of Israel. When her husband died she determined to maintain her new faith, whatever the cost.  Though hard, she left family, friends and home to live with her mother-in-law.  Humbly and obediently she held on and God blessed her for it.

As a foreigner she married into the family line through which Jesus Christ was born into the world.  Ruth had little to start with, but by prizing what she had it was multiplied.  We too will find true prosperity only when we follow the simple principle of prizing and utilizing what we already have from the hand of God.

I’d encourage you to memorize Ruth 1:16 as the key verse in this book.  It’s the basis of understanding what the book is about.  “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.  Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people and your God my God.”  Ruth’s commitment to her mother in law, Naomi, and to her God, is foundational to her God blessed life.  This kind of commitment will bring God’s blessing on your life as well.
