In our last visit we started a “4’s” (step) study of Exodus 21-23.  We spread out the information in those chapters, then sorted and structured that information into an outline.  The title I chose was, Justice before God.  The three points: 1. Responsibilities of the advantaged to promote justice, 2. Protection of the disadvantaged to maintain justice, and 3. Accountability to the Ultimate Judge, God.

Once you’ve organized the material into an outline you need to remember that Bible study is not done until the truth learned is applied to your life.  We need to live with a keen awareness that God wants justice to prevail in all of our dealings with others.

If I’m in a position of advantage I need to remember: I’ll have to give an account to God of my actions toward others.  I must never take advantage of the disadvantaged.  In fact, God gives guidelines that enable us to help the disadvantaged get back on their feet and be protected from anyone’s attack.  Who knows, in the future you might be in a similar situation.  Then you’d want justice done to you.

If you’re disadvantaged at present, keep faith in God.  He’s committed to watch over the disadvantaged and their protection.  Ask God in prayer for His protection as promised in these guidelines.  Trust Him to be merciful toward you and in His time to do what is just.

The Golden Rule of Matthew 7:12 sums up these chapters well: “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the law and the Prophets.”
