As we’ve seen in our study of 1st Peter, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit worked in concert to bring about our salvation. They began before anything even was created. They worked throughout time, setting the stage and implementing what was required for anyone to be saved. Then they personalized it by working in our hearts so we would respond, and when we did respond by faith, making it real in us. God’s provision of salvation worked before Jesus came in the fullness of time to lay his life down for us, dying on the cross, and taking it up again when He arose from the dead. When we read the Old Testament, the details we now have were not as clear then. But God gave enough information for them to understand. The Spirit of Christ operated in the lives of those who trusted in a coming savior. He inspired prophets to predict “the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.” They “searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances” when this would all happen. They didn’t fully understand everything, but those who pursued the truth experienced the impact of it in their lives. Hebrews 11:26 tells us that Moses “regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” Jesus said, “Seek and you will find.” This has always been true. It is true today. If you seek truth you’ll find that the triune God will respond by helping you to find and experience salvation.
