It’s amazing what you find in just the first two verses of 1st Peter. In our last visit we discovered that Salvation is a work of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. It is provided for us and worked out in us by them. Christians are the blessed recipients of what God determined and then implemented in our lives. Truly, Christians are who they are and what they are by the grace of God. The good news is the offer from God, to simply accept by faith what He has determined and done for us and in us. Having introduced this glorious truth to his readers he concludes this introduction to his book with this benediction, “Grace and peace be yours in abundance.” We become Christians by God’s saving grace. We live the Christian life by God’s enabling grace. We cannot add anything to what God has done, nor can we add anything to what God continues to do as we experience, enjoy and share the Christian life with those we encounter along the way. When we trust in Jesus Christ we experience peace with God. The barriers that separated us are broken down. Now we can enjoy the grace and peace of God in overflowing abundance. And as we experience God’s enabling grace and sustaining peace while living along side of unbelievers, we become a source of blessing to them. That is how God penetrates society around us, exposing the lost to the truth and His love. All who are Christians should see themselves as ambassadors of Jesus Christ, sent ones, to a world desperately in need of salvation.
