In recent visits we’ve been developing a way to help people identify where they are in their faith journey or relationship with Jesus Christ. I described a developing love relationship between a man and a woman in order to use it as a backdrop for identifying where they are in their relationship with Jesus Christ. This opens the door for helping them go from where they are to where God wants them to be in that relationship. Then I encourage them to picture Jesus Christ as the bridegroom and themselves as the bride standing before God the Father. God asks Jesus if He will enter into an eternally binding relationship with you. He responds, “Yes!” Then God asks Him, “What token do you have to show your commitment?” Jesus would answer, “The cross!” The cross is where He proved His love by dying for our sins so we could be forgiven and accepted into the family of God. Then God turns to you and asks, “Will you enter into an eternally binding relationship with Jesus Christ by inviting Him into your life?” He lovingly looks into your eyes and waits for your response. What will it be? You might think there is something you need to do before you’re ready for such a relationship. But God doesn’t say anything about that. Jesus, in courting you, says, “Come as you are.” Listen to Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Will you commit your life to Him and invite Him into your life to establish a relationship in which He is your Savior, now?”
