As I was developing the last point I made in our study of 1 Corinthians 9:19 a thought occurred to me. The lives that make a significant impact on others usually go the extra mile in what they do. They add that little extra the average individual doesn’t do. As I thought about this I wondered how I might implement this idea into my normal life experience. I’m already busy. Would God want me to add another project to my life? I thought, if I alerted myself to notice opportunities that come along and endeavor to respond to at least one a day I would make some progress. What would that look like? Here’s what I came up with. When coming to a stop sign and I notice someone waiting to pull out from a drive, stop and wave them on ahead of me. If I’m in a line at the grocery store with a basket full of groceries and the person behind me has two or three items, let them go ahead of me. Or, if I’m driving down the highway and notice across the way someone is out of gas, take a moment to pray for them. If while listening to the news I hear of some tragedy, take a moment to pray for them. Or, if I see someone do something good, thank them for their act of kindness. I was not thinking of adding something to my life that would be a burden. But if I did what I’ve described most of my days it would total over 300 acts of kindness in a year. If everyone in my church did it – just think how much good would be done for Christ! Paul said in Titus 2:14, we should be “eager to do what is good.” Try it today!
