An impact statement that every follower of God should keep in mind is found in Hosea 13:6. Listen, “When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.” Satisfied, proud and forgetful: what a tragic trilogy. It is found in a passage where God is expressing His anger against Israel. They had chosen a treacherous path of idolatry, even offering human sacrifices. God demands uncompromised devotion. He will not share His glory with another. God loves sinners, as explained and demonstrated throughout Hosea. Even in Hosea 13:5 He says, “I cared for you in the desert, in the land of burning heat.” In their time of need, when left to themselves, they would have starved. God fed them, and they were satisfied. He miraculously provided manna for them daily for four decades. When they grumbled in the desert He even provided quail to eat and water to drink. But when they were satisfied they became proud. Proud that they were a special people to God. This pride soon blinded them so that God’s provision became more important to them than His person and presence. They forgot Him. Never forget this tragic trilogy: satisfied, proud and forgetful. We are living in the lap of luxury. God has prospered us beyond imagination. We need to beware of the danger of becoming proud in our prosperity, for that inevitably leads to forgetfulness. Remember this impact statement: “When I fed them, they were satisfied, when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.”
