I trust you’re finding these reflections on what I know about my Savior Jesus Christ a source of encouragement and inspiration. Let me share another couplet: He is august in His majesty, yet amazing in His humility. Those in Biblical history who encountered Him in His glory fell before him. They couldn’t look at the spectacular display. Peter never forgot the time Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, and writes about it in 2nd Peter 1. Yet this majestic person, while dining with his disciples, “took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him” (John 13:4-5). Paul tells us, “being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8). Don’t you love him for that? This leads to another couplet: He is absolute in His sovereignty, yet approachable in His servant-hood. Think of Esther’s fear of approaching king Artaxerxes. She was his favorite wife, yet it was unthinkable to go into his presence uninvited. If he didn’t reach out his scepter she would be killed. Think also of the reverential fear the high priest had when going into the Holy of Holies in the temple once a year. Jesus’ rightful place is at His Father’s right hand. Yet, despite His absolute sovereignty He is so approachable. He came to seek and serve. He never turned anyone away who genuinely came to Him, even children. He delights in our coming, no matter how unworthy we are. So go to Him and worship.
