While studying in preparation for this series on Psalm 46:10 a verse that came to mind a number of times is found in Isaiah 40:31. In the KJV it reads, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they will mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” The NIV reads, “Those who hope in the Lord.” Isaiah 40 describes God as Sovereign over everything. He doesn’t need my help or suggestions. He can handle anything that comes my way or His way. That knowledge should be a comfort to us. No matter how tough your situation might be, if you have confidence in God’s ability to handle it you will be able to wait for Him to come through. As you wait on Him there are times when you will feel as though God has picked you up and lifted you high so that you feel like an eagle, soaring above your circumstances. At other times He quickens your motivation so that you feel like running. Your muscles might ache, but you press on and to your surprise you don’t grow weary. Then there are times when all you can do is just get up and walk, maybe only trudge along, but to your surprise, you don’t faint. The ability to go on, whether soaring like the eagle, running like a distance runner or walking, even with great difficulty, is found in waiting in the presence of God. In the Psalmist’s words, “Be still and know that I am God.” One of the best ways to be still and draw energy from God to go on is to spend time in reading and studying His word, the Bible. My prayer is that this program helps you do this.
