Let’s continue our study of Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” We’ve been focusing on experientially knowing God the Father. Now let’s look at God the Holy Spirit. You will need to be still if you desire to experientially know the Holy Spirit.

When we think of God the Father we have something of a concept of what that means since all of us have had a father, though some have had a poor father image. We also have an idea of what it means to know the Son of God since all of us have experienced family. And even if that has not been a positive experience you know the concept “son” or “daughter” – child.

But when considering the Holy Spirit it’s hard to find something meaningful to relate to that has been a part of your experience. Jesus tried helping Nicodemus in John 3 by saying in verse 8, “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit doesn’t fit neatly into our space/time categories. Even using wind as a means of trying to help Nicodemus understand the Holy Spirit, it had its limitations. He didn’t quite get it. Yet, he was experiencing the impact of the Holy Spirit in his life.

He continued to experience the work of the Holy Spirit. I say that, because at the time of Christ’s death he joined Joseph of Arimathea in taking Christ’s body down from the cross and placing it into the tomb. He became public with his faith in Jesus.

Let me encourage you to take time to be still and know that the Holy Spirit is God.
