As we began exploring what Paul was saying in 1 Corinthians 2 we especially focused on verse 9. I pointed out I had understood this verse to be speaking about what we might imagine heaven to be like. Then I explained, Paul went on to say that God has revealed to us, in His Word, by His Spirit, what “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Before you are saved, by trusting in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross, all of this sounds like foolish, fanciful imagination. Once you trust in Jesus Christ and begin loving God you discover He has prepared all kinds of great things for you to enjoy. Things like forgiveness, power to live victoriously, understanding more and more about God and His plan for you.

As I developed this I was by no means suggesting that verse 9 had nothing to do with heaven. There is always more for us to see, hear and conceive in our minds what God has prepared for us to experience and enjoy. In His Word God reveals a lot about heaven.

For example, in 1 John 3:2 we find, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” There is much more, but that alone would suffice. Wouldn’t you agree?

Paul also acknowledges in 1 Corinthians 13:12, “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

It’s a faith journey worth starting, assured there is a blessed eternal destiny.
