As I mentioned in our last visit, let’s start our “four S” study of Matthew 24-25 by spreading out before us things we see in these chapters.

The chapter begins with Jesus leaving the temple with His disciples. They notice the impressive buildings of the temple and “call his attention to its buildings.” Jesus responds by declaring that “not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

Then as Jesus went to the Mount of Olives the disciples came to Him privately to ask when all Jesus said about the temple would happen? They also asked another question related to what Jesus had said at the end of chapter 23 about the people of Jerusalem rejecting His overtures of love and that He was going to leave and later return. They wanted to know when He would return and what signs would signal His return.

Jesus responded by giving a list of things that would happen and how they should respond to them so they would not be deceived or alarmed. There will be some who come on the scene claiming, “I am the Christ.” There will be wars and rumors of wars. Nations will rise against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms. There will be famines and earthquakes. Followers of Jesus will be persecuted and put to death, and hated by all nations because of Jesus. Many will turn away from the faith, betray and hate each other.

This is a sample of what you’ll find. Take time to write out what you find, spread it out before you to review and reflect on it so you can sort the information into groups and structure it into an outline. We’ll do this in subsequent visits.
