In our last visit we discovered in Isaiah 50:4-5 that we should listen to Jesus if we feel abandoned by God. Why? Because He has “an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.”

Now let’s consider how Jesus got an instructed tongue?

He was willing to have the Sovereign Lord wake Him up morning by morning, waken His ear to listen like one being taught. He had open ears and did not rebel at what He heard nor draw back from the implications of what He heard. That’s how Jesus got an instructed tongue.

That’s also how you can get an instructed tongue. In other words, if you follow Jesus’ example, especially if you are feeling abandoned, you will be sustained. Even more, you will become equipped to help others around you who are despairing and weary.

Let me review for you again His secret. He was open to having the Sovereign Lord wake Him up morning by morning, waken His ear to listen like one being taught, to open His ears and not rebel at what He hears nor draw back from the implications of what He hears.

You see this illustrated in Mark 1:35-39, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: ‘Everyone is looking for you!’ Jesus replied, ‘Let us go somewhere else – to the nearby villages – so I can preach there also.  That is why I have come.’”

He had received His instructions from His heavenly Father early in the morning. We’ll look at this further in our next visit.
