In our last visit we started amplifying the focus of Isaiah 50: God’s answers to those who feel abandoned by Him. The first point was a question: If you fee abandoned by God, guess who moved away? Now let’s amplify the second point: If you feel abandoned by God, listen and look to Jesus and trust in Him.

First, consider why we should listen to Jesus. Isaiah prophetically quotes Jesus as saying in verses 4-5, “The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back.”

The reason we should listen to Jesus when we feel abandoned by God is because He has “an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” Did you get that? Jesus knows “the word” that will sustain you. God hasn’t abandoned you. He wants to sustain you. That’s why He gave Jesus an instructed tongue to speak “the word” that will sustain you.

This word is similar to what you find described in Proverbs 25:11, “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver,” and Proverbs 15:23, “how good is a timely word.” Proverbs 16:23-24 says, “A wise man’s heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

Jesus spoke such words. Are you listening to Him? Listen patiently. Listen closely. You won’t be disappointed. His word restores.
