We’re told by Jesus there is coming a time when nations will rise up against nations and there will be wars and rumors of wars. This is happening in our world today and being reported so graphically and extensively many people are deeply troubled and despairing. But as believers we have reason to be comforted and encouraged to stand tall and strong for truth.

We reviewed in our last visit what Isaiah said in Isaiah 40 about our great God. With the word pictures he paints we should be comforted and encouraged.

From our perspective the world might appear to be falling apart and the opposition overwhelming. But to God the nations are like a drop in a bucket or dust on scales. Before him all the nations are as nothing. He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth. You almost get a picture of God relaxing in comfort and peace as He watches the futile wrangling of men and nations.

You can’t compare Him to anything that is finite. You can’t add to His understanding. He created all that is. He’s given every star a name. He will never grow weary or tired. So why do we worry? Why do we question His concern for us and our well-being? Why do we feel as though He is disregarding our situation and concerns? Some turn to idols fashioned by men. But they can’t hear or help.

Isaiah encourages us to “hope in the Lord,” or as the King James Version puts it, “wait on the Lord.” When we do we will find renewed strength to soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, and walk and not be faint. Try it for yourself today.
