We have been amplifying what we discovered in 1st Samuel about Jonathan, as a man. I could put it into some bullet points:

1. His commanding presence was evident throughout his life, especially as he led others in battle. Listen to his armor-bearer’s words, “Do all that you have in mind…Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”
2. His courage is seen in his military exploits as well as in his challenging relationships. He chose to attack the enemy even though outnumbered 10 to 1. He gave others the benefit of the doubt, even when he might be misunderstood and falsely accused, until proven otherwise.
3. He had a razor sharp comprehension of what was going on around him. When he was wrong he sought to find the truth. Once knowing the truth he would accept what was and support what he perceived was to be.
4. He had compassion, going the extra mile for those he felt were misunderstood, or until proven otherwise.
5. He was able to keep confidences even when he had to endure negative outcomes.
6. He maintained his character even while enduring misunderstandings and false accusations.
7. He believed in covenantal commitments. He was a man who could be trusted, and trusted others until they proved untrustworthy. He was the kind of son and friend anyone would want to be associated with, unless they had a perverse agenda for the relationship. He was not perfect, but he was authentic.

He was the kind of person it would be worth praying for and pursuing to be your friend. One would be wise to follow in his footsteps.
