In our last visit we found that God’s unfailing love will come to those who seek and call out to Him, trusting in His promise. Once you’ve taken this step you’ll find according to Psalm 119 many other reasons why God gave us His Word.
Note verse 165: “Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” You will find God’s Word will enlighten you concerning His will. More specifically, what your next step should be on the path God wants you to go. You’ll find this in our key verse for the Psalm, verse 105.
It warns you about your enemy and shows you how to overcome him. It keeps you from sin and keeps your life clean. D.L. Moody once said, “Sin will keep you from the Bible. The Bible will keep you from sin!”
It gives you perspective when experiencing affliction or problems so you will better understand what God is in process of doing in and through your life. Listen to the psalmist’s observations: in verse 67, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.” Verse 71, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” Verse 75, “I know, O Lord, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.” Verses 92-93, “If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.”
Thus, God’s Word gives hope when you feel hopeless, peace when your life is in turmoil, courage when the enemy seems overwhelming and freedom when you feel surrounded and in bondage.
