Update, June ’20

July 9th, 2020

It has been a long time since shutdown started but for us it has seemed to go by so fast. Weekends come up before you expect. Where has the time gone? What have we accomplished? We’ve kept busy with things we put aside, things that were not necessarily top priorities. Others that needed to be done if we were going to enjoy the summer. But in the midst of it all, we’ve worked on essentials that will count for eternity. More time in prayer, and boy are there increasing reasons to turn to God for His help. More time to read, study, meditate and memorize parts of the Bible. That’s right, memorize important Bible verses to arm yourself for Battle. When you consider how quickly things have changed in our nation and world over the last few months in ways I don’t think any of us would have thought could or would happen. And change is not over. Only God knows what we will confront this summer, fall the elections, and…
Are you ready to follow Paul’s instructions in Ephesians 5:15-17, “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is!” And, yes, “be filled with the Holy Spirit.” If you tie that in with his instructions in Philippians 2:12-16 you get a fuller picture of our assignment for these days: “Therefore, my dear friends…work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life” to those in your sphere of influence.
Why am I sharing these thoughts with you? I’m sure the people of God in the time when the prophet Amos lived found it hard to believe what he was warning them about: “The day is coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land – not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.” If you think I’m an alarmist, just stop and think of the millions of churches, nationally and worldwide, that have stood empty for three months, and are now only cautiously being allowed to open with limiting guidelines. Yes, we have creatively used technology to great advantage, possibly reaching many we hadn’t reached with past strategies, but the internet is not controlled by the church. Already we’re seeing surveillance increase and scary misuses of such information being exercised to potentially limit or control our freedoms. Beware and prepare. But most of all…
Be sure you and your family are right with God, be armed with the Word of God, pray diligently, cultivate close relationships with fellow believers (Hebrews 10:25) and “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1st Peter 3:15-16). And remember, greater is He Who is within you than he that is in the world! (1st John 4:4).
As you pray, please remember to pray for us as we and our family serve the Lord in all we do, and as Lud shares the word of life over the radio. Thank you and God bless.
